CAS Project at the Montenegro Community Center / Proyecto CAS en el centro comunitario Montenegro

Image
What is it about? Our Service project at the Montenegro community center is mainly about supporting primary and secondary school children in their homework club and teaching courses. In our case, we did a workshop on personal hygiene habits. What was a memorable moment? Something that really impressed us was the gratitude we received for just giving a little of our time and knowledge. What was the biggest challenge you faced? One of the biggest challenges was generating ideas and activities about personal hygiene for young children. For example, we did an experiment so they could see the bacteria and we showed a video to teach the proper technique for washing their hands, we made a memo, games, and competitions to capture their attention and make it very dynamic. What did you discover about yourself? Sofi: I discovered that I am passionate about teaching children. I strengthened my creativity and organization skills. Morgan: I discovered the meaning of gratitude and mut...

My experience with community service: Rebe & Isa

Image
Our HS atudents, Rebeca and Isabella, share their experience at CAS project How did the idea for a creative writing workshop come about? "While interacting with the children at Escuela de Jurica during our community service, we noticed a great interest and creativity in many of them, but also a certain shyness when it came to expressing themselves in writing. We saw an opportunity to offer a workshop that not only fosters their writing skills but also their confidence and passion for storytelling. We spoke with some teachers, and everyone was very enthusiastic about the idea. So, we decided to organize it as part of our community service project, and so far, it has been a very rewarding experience for all involved." What positive impact has the workshop had on the academic and personal development of the children and on you? “The creative writing workshop has had a profoundly positive impact on the children, as well as on us. We have observed how the children have impro...

Springtime in Prague: "Creativity, Activity and Service" / Primavera en Praga: “Creatividad, Actividad y Servicio”

CAS, is one of the core components of the International Baccalaureate program that allows for acquiring meaningful learning from experience. The program inspires students to confront real-life situations to broaden their perspective of the world around them and to become citizens willing to take action by showing social commitment to members of the local, national and international community. Eight of our 11th and 12th grade students had the opportunity to participate a multicultural experience with students from Japan and India, carrying out different challenges related to the three components of CAS. Among the activities they developed, there were service activities such as: cooking for people in vulnerable situations, knowing the life story of homeless people, collaborating in an organic farm, overcoming the challenge of communication to sell magazines and making a donation to homeless people. With the Creativity component, they were able to interview people to detect local need...

Day of reforestation and delivery of food supplies in the El Obraje community

Image
Last Saturday, March 9, our high school students joined the families of “El Obraje” community for a special day of reforestation. They began the day with a group dynamic called “Fallen Tree,” designed to reflect on our actions and their impact on the environment. During the day, they worked as a team to plant 20 trees in the area, involving children and adults from the community. This experience not only contributes to caring for the environment, but also fosters collaboration and a sense of shared responsibility. As a gesture of recognition for their effort and dedication, the families were given a food pantry at the end of the activity. The 50 pantries were donated by H-E-B. We firmly believe that these types of initiatives strengthen community ties and enrich service experiences, making them even more meaningful for everyone involved. Bike-a-thon 2024

Image
On Sunday, March 10, our annual "Bike-a-thon" event in support of the Querétaro Food Bank took place, organized with dedication by the National Honor Society students of High School.  It was an event full of joy and participation where children, youth, teachers, and parents joined together for the same purpose.  Each participant sought sponsors willing to contribute a voluntary donation for each lap on the bike or running on our track. We are deeply moved to see the unity, solidarity, enthusiasm, and human quality of all those who make this event possible.  Thanks to the joint effort, we managed to raise nearly $23,000. This achievement shows the collaborative and generous spirit that characterizes our community.  Thank you very much!
