JFK Celebrates 20 Years of Environmental Commitment / El JFK celebra 20 años de compromiso ambiental

Image
For the third consecutive year, JFK has been awarded the Eco-School certification, and this year marks our first recognition as a LEAF-certified institution. These certifications reflect our enduring commitment to fostering environmental awareness and action among our students. On October 29, we proudly celebrated the symbolic raising of the Eco-Schools and LEAF flags, commemorating JFK’s 20-year commitment to the environment. Over the years, our school has been dedicated to equipping students with the tools to become future leaders in environmental sustainability. Generations of students have been an essential part of the Ecoclub, supporting our environmental programs and contributing to obtaining national certifications. In 2021, JFK achieved its first international recognition as a Green School. The ceremony was attended by Eco-Club students, along with José Antonio Coll Guzmán, Sustainability Director at Airbus Defense and Space and a JFK alumnus; Ricardo Javier Torres Hernández, D...

Ecotourism at the Ecoclub / Ecoturismo en el ecoclub

Image
On October 19, the students of the Ecoclub went on their first environmental outing to the Rancho Vía Orgánica. We learned about the "milpa" and were able to harvest corn and eat it— it was delicious! Our tour consisted of a walk around the ranch, observing different animals. We learned about the importance of each one of them and the role that every living being plays on our planet. Our tour was amazing! Being in touch with nature is healthy for our mind and body. Doing this type of family ecotourism activity helps us learn more about the local flora and fauna, become more sensitive to nature, recognize and appreciate what we have, and enjoy the local culture. But most importantly, it increases our knowledge in a dynamic and entertaining way. An event filled with family bonding, fun, and learning. If you want to experience this, we invite you to join our Ecoclub! ----------------------------------------- El pasado 19 de octubre los alumnos del Ecoclub realizaron su primera s...

Compost Champs program / Programa Campeones de la composta

Image
Our Preschool Compost Champs program is starting its second year!  This program was  developed by Preschool teachers and the Environmental Program as part of last year’s SEP  analytic program of improvement. Every classroom has a small lidded bucket where they put the  compostable organic waste after lunch. In order to help develop this environmental habit in all  students, most classrooms have included it as a class job that students will carry out throughout  the year. Students also learn to record their habit by putting a tally or checkmark on a weekly  chart that’s next to the compost every time they take their bucket, learning to find their  classroom and the day of the week on the chart. We believe celebrating positive actions engages students and encourages them to  continue, that is why every Flag Ceremony we review the weekly chart and cheer all the  classrooms that remembered to take their compost every day of the previous week...

LEAF seeks to ensure that learning is carried out not only in its educational center but in the community so that throughout life it makes a difference. This program was resized as a learning and project hub The school, through the ecoclub, carried out various activities to receive ...

In Preschool, we have an exciting composting program from the SEP Analytic Program. Students are encouraged to create compost from their lunch leftovers. After doing so, they record the date and classroom on a poster, fostering environmental awareness from an early age. A fun and educational initiative to care for our planet!  ------------------------------------------- En Preschool, tenemos un programa de composta muy interesante por parte de nuestro plan analítico de la SEP. Trip with friends “Travel and learn in the Sierra Gorda” / Viaje entre amigos “Viaja y aprende en la Sierra Gorda”

After almost 3 years the Ecoclub has resumed its environmental trips. On October 13 to 15, an incredible trip was made among friends with the aim of enjoying and valuing the nature of the Sierra Gorda Queretana, getting to know the different ecosystems. We learned new things with the specialists who live in the region but above all, we had fun and spent time with people who value nature. We visited the wonderful Cuatro Palos lookout and the Chuveje waterfall where we were able to take a tour through the forest observing a gallery of poplar trees. In the Ayutla River we took a tour to identify the local flora and fauna and we also had a great time with all the participants making wood-fired pizzas. Finally, we went to Concá where we were able to visit the ancient tree that is the second oldest after the tule tree located in Oaxaca. Finally, we ended up visiting the Franciscan mission of Miguel Concá If you want to live this experience, we invite you to be part of the Ecoclub next ...
