Service Learning in Math class / Aprendizaje Servicio en la clase de Matemáticas

Our students in 10th grade were able to design a project for Service Learning in math class with Miss Lulú.

This was done to challenge them using their knowledge of math, they made board games classified into three different levels of difficulty to share them with students in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grade in the Middle School Juan Pablo II.

The event was presented as a “math fair”, where they could actively show their creativity, cooperation, and enthusiasm when sharing and learning with other students, in an academic environment as well as trustworthy as equals.

Will share with you a few reflections from our students:

The Math fair was an activity I thought of as very fun and to learn, because both of us benefited. We showed skills like patience, teaching, and communication. I enjoyed this opportunity to get along with the kids and leave behind the beautiful feeling of watching how other students got excited about the games. Daniela Lima

I really liked this activity because it took on a different approach to learning where we reviewed topics we were learning in class and also where we used creativity to do the project. Mateo Chávez

It was a really good experience as well as knowledgeable for us and the children. At first, I was worried that they would not participate, but everyone did. A few exercises were difficult for them, but after helping them they were able to do it and have fun. Overall I enjoyed this experience and would like to do this again or something similar. I enjoyed this project because I was able to make my game based on a game my dad taught me, which helped me create a greater connection, making this experience more memorable. It was an amazing experience because they and I had fun. I also had the opportunity to have the math teacher from the school play against other students, which was very interesting since everyone, including adults, had fun. Jimena Viramontes

Nuestros estudiantes de 10o grado diseñaron un proyecto de Aprendizaje Servicio, en la clase de Matemáticas con Miss Lulú.

Con el objetivo de poner en práctica sus conocimientos matemáticos, crearon  juegos didácticos con tres grados de dificultad, para compartir con  los estudiantes de 1o, 2o y 3o de secundaria de la escuela Juan Pablo II. 

El evento fue una “Feria de Matemáticas”, en donde pudieron mostrar su creatividad,  trabajo colaborativo y entusiasmo por compartir y aprender junto con otros estudiantes, en un ambiente académico y de confianza entre iguales.

Algunas reflexiones de nuestros alumnos:

La feria de matemática me pareció una actividad muy divertida y de aprendizaje, ya que ambos fuimos beneficiados. Mostramos nuestras habilidades  como paciencia, enseñanza y métodos de comunicación. Me gustó mucho la oportunidad de poder convivir con los niños y  tener un sentimiento bonito en el corazón al ver cómo otros estudiantes se emocionan por los juegos. Daniela Lima

Me gustó mucho esta actividad porque fue una  dinámica diferente de aprendizaje donde repasamos los temas que vemos y también podemos utilizar la creatividad para hacer un proyecto. Mateo Chávez

Fue una experiencia muy padre y educativa tanto para nosotros como para los niños. Al principio estaba preocupada de que no quisieran participar, pero todos lo hicieron.

Algunos  ejercicios se les dificultaron  pero al explicarles, lo lograban y se la pasaban bien. En general me gustó mucho la experiencia y  me gustaría poder repetirla o hacer una similar.  Sofía Nava.

Disfruté de este proyecto porque logré basar mi juego en uno que mi papá me enseñó, lo cual me hizo tener una conexión más grande e hizo esta experiencia aún más memorable. Fue una experiencia increíble porque yo me divertí lo mismo que ellos. Tuve la oportunidad de que el profesor de matemáticas de la escuela, jugará contra algunos alumnos, lo cual fue muy interesante ya que todos, incluyendo adultos, se divirtieron.  Jimena Viramontes.
